Q about Garmin 705 auto pause and rubi

Postby overthehill » Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:53 pm

Hi - I currently use my Garmin 705 with auto pause set to off. Only because I take my average speed from Rubi which effectively does that for me. However, in a few months I'll be doing a long distance multi-day ride and won't be uploading to Rubi until afterwards. I want to know my moving average speed each night and so plan to turn on auto pause to do this. My question is - when I finally do upload to Rubi will it affect it at all?

Thanks

Hello,

if you stop and switch off the device after a day I'm not sure you'll need auto-pause at all. When you continue your recording the next day (assuming you want to continue and record it as one big activity), the Edge should mark the interruption as a stop on its own.

I'd recommend to try it out before you do your actual ride to avoid surprises come race day:

Simply record an activity, stop (but don't reset) the Edge, switch it off, wait a couple of minutes, switch it back on (don't reset) and restart the Edge and continue with the activity. When you sync with rubiTrack, you should see a stop. For this test I recommend not to use rubiTrack's stop detection so you can tell whether the Edge recorded the stop correctly.

Hi Markus - no I don't want to record it as one big event, but at the end of each day I want to know what my "moving" average speed has been. Without auto pause the Garmin just divides distance by total time

In that case you should use auto-pause on the device and switch off stop detection for the activity after importing it into rubiTrack.

I have a question about stop detection, apologies if this isn't the right thread... I have a Garmin Edge 305 and on a ride this afternoon stopped to check something on my bike... but I noticed that despite being stopped for a couple of minutes that rubiTrack only showed 1 second...

I've included a screen grab below from the track data which appears to show that I stopped for 1:39 so I'm not sure why that's not showing up in the display? As a complete aside, what is the tick box on the very right hand side (column title I) for? I noticed that if I checked it that the arrow in the map reappeared but that was it?

Cheers - Robert...

Robert,

that looks strange. Can you send a TCX (exported from rubiTrack) to support for inspection? We can take a look at what is going on.
